Senior Living Options are Evolving

Active Living housing is the fastest growing type of Senior Housing, basically over 55 or over 62 multi-family housing, but without the services typically provided in Independent Living Communities. There are many different types of Senior Living or Senior Housing, as further referenced in Senior Living Definition, with Enhanced Active Living, one of our companies’ brands, which has many unique components to promote aging in place.

While somewhat of a smaller segment of the growth of new types of senior housing, senior cooperatives are another option that is finding great success and a niche in that type of development, as referenced in the case study for Village Cooperative.

Please see our recently completed research on various new alternatives of Senior Housing, primarily Independent Living and Active Living. It’s called Independent Living and Assisted Living Alternatives. As mentioned in the research paper Welltower, the largest REIT in the senior space according to https://money.usnews.com/investing/dividends/articles/best-health-care-reits-for-a-retirement-portfolio continues to broaden its portfolio beyond skilled nursing facilities, assisted living, and retirement communities with a myriad of acquisitions over the last few years. This includes Conifer, a company that targets moderate to middle-income senior apartments to Treplus Communities, a company that develops and operates primarily attached ranches built to rent with a community center to Calamar, a company that develops middle to upper middle-income senior housing that is somewhat different than the wave of Active Adult development over the last 5-8 years.
